Jungmann Tea Party
On Saturday 23rd September, Annabelle Burroughs held an Emery Little sponsored fly-in of vintage Jungmenn aircraft at Compton Abbas Airfield. Below is her account of the day with a foreword by Clive Hughes, Managing Director of Compton Abbas Airfield.

“Annabelle, as most people will know, owns and operates a Jungmann. So it was no surprise to those who know her well that she should think up the idea of a “Jungmann Tea Party”. This first tea party took place on the 23rd Sept at Compton and a short write up from Annabelle follows below. Emery Little is taking a vigorous interest in aviation insurance and I am sure that we will be seeing and hearing more about this visionary company in the near future.” Clive Hughes
Last Saturday four beautiful Jungmann’s arrived at Compton Abbas having been invited for tea by the two resident Jungmann’s. Although there were tricky winds from the South, our intrepid visitors were not about to be prevented from a free scone and landing fees!! Emery Little had very kindly agreed to sponsor the event.
The Jungmann’s (does such a large collection of them qualify as Jungmenn?) were the largest collection gathered in one place in the UK and they were joined by Odette, a very pretty orange Stamp and a Tiger Moth. There were due to be another four Jungmann’s, but sadly they were stuck in fog in Norfolk!
The crowd were entertained by a close formation practice…on the ground…for a group piccie which took an inordinate amount of time to spread them all over the taxi way. When we thought we were ready, Trevor started moving his stunning cream and black one much to the amazement of everyone else, but he wanted it tucked in closer, as this was the first fly-in where he had found other Jungmann’s to play with.
Hugh was doing sterling work flying Air cadets, and we only just managed to get him to hesitate for long enough to join in for the photo with his engine running! His distinctive colour scheme reflects the fact that the designer of the Jungmann was a Swede (not the vegetable).
We are already planning another event next year (which should be overnight complete with BBQ) for them all if Clive and Margaret will put up with the German invasion, as everyone really enjoyed the day, and agreed that Compton was a perfect venue for it.
