Yesterday Cessna Aircraft flew the new CJ4 business jet for the first time. A number of the systems were tested and all is reported to have gone very well.

A twin engine Cessna 310 has gone missing off the coast of Brazil with four Britons on board. Aero Star that operate the plane say that final contact was made with Ilheus control tower as the pilot was making a visual approach.

Boeing have denied reports in the German media that the Dreamliner is going to be delayed by a further nine weeks.

During the first quarter of 2008, 858 companies went into administration which is an increase of 22.7% over the same period last year. Companies that went into receivership over the same period rose to it's highest level of 5 years at 273 which is an increase of 145.9% over the same period in 2007.

Boris Johnson has defeated Ken Livingstone by quite a margin to take over as the new Mayor of London. There was a record turn out of 45%, but defeat for Labour again must give cause for concern within the party.

Gordon Brown says it has been a "bad and disappointing" election for Labour. This looks to be quite an understatement as Labour has it's worst council results for 40 years. The unelected Prime Minister must be wondering if he will ever be elected to the top job as these results show Labour in third place with the popular vote on 24%. The Lib-Dems are in second with 25%, whilst the Tories lead the way with 44%.

British Light Aircraft Co. America Inc. of Waco Texas are expecting deliveries of the Optica to commence agin in 2008. The return of this revolutionary observation aircraft will be very welcome. The Optica was the brainchild of the UK's very own genius, John Edgley but was unfortunately dogged in it's early days.

Over the weekend Eos ceased trading and filed for bankruptcy. This follows on from MaxJet shutting down on Christmas Eve and leaves UK based Silverjet as the only all-premium carrier operating from New York to London.

We are delighted to hear that Burt Rutan is to receive the Heinlein Award for Lifetime Achievement in Aerospace. The presentation to this genius of our time should take place at a gala dinner for the Annual International Space Development Conference in Washington DC on 30th May 2008. The award is presented to those who have made significant contributions to the advancement of space travel. It is fantastic that Mr Rutan should receive this award, but let us not forget his fantastic commitment to aviation in general.

The Giove-B test spacecraft is about to be launched from a spaceport in Kazakhstan. Europe has spent up to €5bn on the project which is aimed at delivering Europe's own GPS complimentary system, which should improve speed of communication and accuracy if succesful.

The price of oil rose above $119 a barrel as BP prepare to shut down a North Sea pipeline. A strike at Exxon in Nigerai is also disrupting production. A proposed two day strike by refinery workers in Scotland over pensions could cause the closure of the Forties pipeline which supplies one third of the UK's oil.

The oranisers of the new Indian Premier League have been warned that they could be fined if their cheerleaders are deemed to be indecently dressed. The new cricket league which is set to transform the image of cricket, has brought cheerleaders in from all over the world and they make up one part of what promises to be quite a spectacle.

Royal Bank of Scotland appears to be in negotiations with regards to selling it's insurance business which includes Direct Line, NIG and Churchill. This follows the recent record share option being put forward as the bank desperately tries to recoup some of the reserves it spent last year. Edinburgh Airport had to close it's main runway for three hours after discovering a hole in the surface. The runway is undergoing resurfacing work and outbound flights were able to use the other runway.

All Nippon Airways of Japan continues to consider the low-cost carrier option. It is though to be a possibility that should thye decide to proceed, they may operate from Tokyo's Haneda airport once the fourth runway has opened.

The Gripen Demo will be powered by F414G engines which General Electric and Volvo Aero are currently developing. The engine will create more thrust to support the new aircraft's increased maximum take-off weight.

An SDR (Special Drawing Rights) is an international reserve asset, created by the IMF (International Monetary Fund) in 1969, the exchange rate to convert SDR's to £'s can vary as with any currency, but is important as it is used to calculate the level of cover required on aviation insurance in respect of third parties, passengers, baggage and cargo for air carriers and aircraft operators flying within Europe. As a result of a recent change in the exchange rate it has become apparent the some insurance policies may now be insufficient. We urge everyone to check their own policies and if found to be inadequate then request the increase and it may be worth buiding in a buffer in case of future ammendments.

18th April 2008RBS to raise £10bn to fight the credit crunch

Royal Bank of Scotland which is the second largest bank in Britain and owns the likes of Nat West, Directline, Churchill, Privilege, NIG and Lombard is expected to announce the biggest ever rights issue in UK corporate history. The bank that spent roughly £56bn last year in taking over a Dutch bank is now reported to have the smallest cushion relative to risk on their balance sheet of any bank in Europe. The £10bn is to improve it's cushion and is going to come from shareholders.

Adam Aircraft, the manufacturer of the A500 Twin in-line turboprop and developer of the A700 VLJ has been acquired by new start up private equity firm AAI. None of the former 800 employees look like being rehired which is a further set back for Denver after loosing 50 jobs from Aviation Technology Group that went bankrupt after developing the Javelin VLJ.

G-ZERO has completed it's annual and is back flying. The Grumman AA5B which was the last aircraft owned by Neville Duke is flying better than ever and is still used by Emery-Little whenever practical.

Yesterday saw the official opening of Heathrow's new Terminal 5. Now that British Airways have their £4.3bn new terminal, does Heathrow need it's third runway. The arguments for and against are likely to rumble on for quite some time.
