The speaker's official flat within the Palace of Westminster had £724,000 of public money spent on it during Mr Martin's occupancy between 2000 - 2008. Now Mr Bercow has ordered a further £20,000 of refurbishment to include a new sofa suite and £1,087 to decorate an office into a playroom.
10th August 2009Another £50bn pumped into the economy Last Thursday saw the bank of england pour a further £50 billion pounds into the economy taking the total so far to £175bn despite the chancellor only making allowance for a total of £150bn.
10th August 2009Nearly 20,000 shops closed in less than a year This year roughly 12,000 independent shops and 7,000 branches of chains have closed down. The average retail vacancy has increased from 4% to 12% in the same period of time.
10th August 2009Another emergency landing for Flybe Following the events that lead to the temporary closure of Gatwick last month, Flybe hav had another forced landing, this time at Exeter. The Embraer 195 was on route from Gatwick to Jersey with 82 passengers when a technical fault meant all passengers needed to be boarded onto a different aircraft.
10th August 2009Darlington 0 - 1 Leeds United Leeds have won their second straight game of the season. Following on from the victory away to Exeter, Enoch Showunmi scored in the 54th minute to ensure the clubs safe passage into the next round of the Carling Cup. It's been 41 years since Leeds last lifted the trophy, could this be their year ?
